 Our founder is a member of the Tolowa Dee-ni' Nation which is a federally recognized Native nation rooted along the rugged northern California coast, centered today at the Smith River Rancheria in Del Norte County. Descended from Athabaskan-speaking peoples, the Tolowa Dee-ni’ have lived for millennia in close relationship with the Smith River, the Pacific Ocean, and the surrounding forests, developing rich traditions tied to fishing, basketry, and ceremonial life. Despite devastating violence and displacement during the mid-19th century, the Nation has endured and continues to revitalize its language, culture, and governance, asserting sovereignty while stewarding its ancestral lands and waters for future generations.
